MOTOR REGISTRATIONS

RENEWING DRIVERS’ LICENSES A FEW DEFAULTERS. 4 : The yellow and black number plates on motor vehicle signifying re-registra-tion for the ensuing year are now a common sight about the streets and any vehicle still bearing the old black and white issue immediately becomes conspicuous, for the reason that according to the strict letter of the regulations the owner is breaking the law and is now liable to prosecution. It is apparent that some latitude is. being extended to defaulters, but it is not wise that ii should be imposed upon. ■

Up to this morning the local post office staff in charge of re-registrations had 'issued plates for 609 cars, 103 motor cycles and 53 other vehicles. It is estimated that there are still about 100 owners' in the district who have,- so far, failed to re-register their- vehicles, though possibly a number of these owners have left the district. Old cars scrapped and disposed of in other ways may account for quite a number of the vohicles that have not been re-regis-tered.

The town clerk informs us that to date he lias issued 245 renewals of drivers’ licenses and that there are about 100 defaulters.
