PERSONAL.

Mr H. C. M. Norris, solicitor, of Hamilton, has been appointed chancellor of the Diocese of Waikato.

Mr G. H. Hamilton took over the control of the Tauranga District High School, as headmaster, yesterday. Miss M. White, a well-known Auckland artist, is ou a visit to Cambridge, staying with her brother, Mr O. A. White.

Dr T. G. Short, Deputy-Mayor, has announced his candidature for the Waihi Mayoralty. Mr W. M. Wallmeter, the present Mayor, is also a candidate.

Rev. Lionel Harvie, who has been appointed to succeeded R-cv. .Mor rimer Jones as vicar at Cambridge, will arrive here after Easter, about the 27th inst. Mr William Arnott, Greymoutli’s oldest resident, has died,, aged 98. He arrived on the West Coast in 18(55, and was a builder by occupation. He fought in the Crimean War.

Miss D. M. Smith, B.Sc., who succeeds Mr N. H. Taylor on the staff of the secondary department of the District High School, assumed her duties yesterday morning. ,

Mr Stewart Reid, M.P. for Waikato, paid a visit to Arapuni yesterday,, taking some visitors to the district with him. Mr Reid was in. Cambridge during the afternoon.

The death occurred on Saturday at Wellington of Mr Frederick Sampson, the senior member of the General Assembly Library staff. Mr Sampson had been associated with the institution for over 50 years.

Mr Edgar James left Cambridge on Sunday night for Wellington to meet his wife and little son, lan, who are arriving by the Tainui on Tuesday af tor a twelve months’ tour of tho Old. Country. During her extended holiday Mrs James also visited a number of the historic places in France associated with the Great War.. -

An unfortunate accident befel Samuel Reynolds, younger son of Mr Fred Reynolds, at the residence of Ills daughter, Mrs Looker, Leamington,, on Thursday afternoon last. The lad was playing with an old rifle —unaware of the fact that it . Was' loaded —when it exploded, the bullet entering the right foot. At the present time the wound is progressing satisfactorily.

An illuminated adUress was presented to Mr A. W. Green, who for 19 years was manager of the liuakura farm, by the members of the Waikato Farmers’ Union, at Hamilton. The president, Mr W. Lee Martin, thanked Mr Green for the courteous way in which he had always received farmers who visited the farm. He had rendered the farmingcommunity much valuable advice and service while he was at liuakura. The Mayor of Hamilton, Mr J. li. Fow, and Messrs H. Barter, T. H. Henderson, and J. Barugh also ;fspoke in appreciative terms of the services Mr Green had done.
