CAMBEIBCyE E.UOEY UNION. ANNUAL REPORT. Tin* following report wax presented to the annual meeting of the Cambridge 1.-agby Union on Thursday oveniii : • Finance.-—Tho balance sheet. is also presented and shows that after carrying out all engagements the entertaining of visiting teams* and payment of accounts the income for the season was sufficient to meet all demands. The union was unfortunate in the matter of gate takings revenue. The Finlav Cup for which several matches ivero played during the season was lost, to Waipa, the first challengers. Waipa. in turn lost to Morrinsvillo, which team withstood all challengers throughout the season. Contests for the Boyce Cup resulted in our juniors drawing with Morrinsvillo in the first game and defeating Waipa in the second game, but in the next match they failed against the Matninata jouniors. A visit to Mat a mat a to regain the trophy was unsuccessful. The loss of both cups materially affected the revenue from gate
takings as against last season’s returns, Club matches resulted in Hautapu being the senior winners and Leamington juniors winning in that grade.. The sevon-a-side senior contest was Avon by City and the juniors by Leamington. An attempt was made to gain the Peace Cup by visiting Thames, Our team made a "strenuous effort but suffered defeat by 9 to 3. Visits were also paid to Putanmi and to M'atamata. At. till places visited our men were most hospitably entertained, a compliment which we wore pleased to afford to all visiting teams. The season closed on the 2nd October, when unfortunately weather conditions were .extremely bad. Hautapu, to which club the Binney Cup had been handed from the City Club of Hamilton, turned out against Pirongia, the premier club of tin* Waipa Union, and the visitors proved victorious in the last few minutes and the third cup left the district. Another game was played the same day, the local juniors meeting the Karaugahahc juniors and registering a comfortable win. The balance sheet for flit* season shows that the revenue received provided for slightly over and above what was required for all improvements made, in addition to the usual expenditure in travelling, entertaining, etc. In additions to the surplus of £-13 4/.11 that was in the post office savings bank at the commencement of the season, there is a. credit balance at the union ’s bank of £(S -0/fi. In conclusion, and as I Avill not be present at this annual meeting, I take the opportunity of wishing the union every success in the future. —H. Lewis, Secretarv.
