THE COST OF KEEPING A DAIRY COW.
‘ (To the Editor).. . ■ : Sir, 7— Some time ago I came upon an - article ;on the above subject, writteu by a practical dairy farmer. Ho quoted figures covering two seasons, giving for the .first the sum of £l4 3/S, reprerenting lS9lbs of butterfat at 1/d lb, and for the second £l(s 3/8, or 21ulbs of butterfat at 1/6 per lb. The writer . did not go into fractions for butterfat. I am deeply interested in . this subject, and would appreciate seeing the cO&t as ( worked out by dairy farmers of the district... Now, when the price of produce is so low, it means a greater''production, per cow for her keep. When the- cost, is accurately estimated a , standard of production can be set according , ; t 0 price of produce, and - the' producer would know that, to come, bolow that standard meant working at a loss. Hoping that dairy farmers will take sufficient interest to discuss this sub- " jectpublish their views.—l aw*;': etc., • ‘ - A PRODUCER. Hautapu, March 30th, 1927.
