HARVEST FESTIVAL
TRINITY CHURCH. SUCCESSFUL CELEBRATION. Large congregations filled Trinity Presbyterian, Church at both services on Sunday, when the festival of harvest was celebrated. The church had been most artistically decorated for the occasion by Mrs Collis, assisted by other ladies of the congregation, a featuie of the decorative scheme being lattice work on . frames interwoven with autumn leaves, placed in. the windows and ■over the doors. Around the pulpit there were visible tokens of the harvest field beautifully arranged, and intermingled with vases and baskets of flowers which assisted..materially In creating an atmosphere . suggestive: of the harvest season. .:.Guthbert Harris’ harvest anthem, U Behold I have given you every herb,” was sung by the choir at the morning service,, and at the evening service, the .choir, sang the favourite anthem by Sir John Goss, ‘‘Be Thou Exalted.” ..,;.Miss. Lilian Thompson sang the solo, “ Harvest,” in the morning, and-. Miss Helen Taylor sang ‘‘ the Great Awakening” at tlie evening service. The hymns for the day were those, of harvest season.
Thu preacher’s.subject in 'the morning was “The'Spiritual Harvest/ 7 based on the text Galatians 15—8: “Ho that, soweth to the flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption, but he that soweth to the spirit shall of the spirit reap life everlasting.' 7 • The pulpit theme at the evening-ser-vice was “Hunger satisfied, thirst, quenched, 7 7 preached from the text St. John 7—37. “If any man thirst, let him conic unto Me and drink. 77 In both sermons the preacher set forth the practical nature of Christianity and indicated how a rich spiritual harvest was within the reach of every man, and also how the deepest longings of the human heart can be satisfied by participating in the spirit of Jesus Christ. Over halfsa ton of harvest gifts sent rin havo been forwarded to the Auckland Orphanages. 1 SALVATION ARMY. Special harvest festival thanksgiving services wore held in the Salvation Army Hall on Sunday, conducted by Commandant and Mrs Gudsell and Captain Buckingham. There was a good attendance at each of the services. The hall was tastefully decorated and there was a good display of the harvest. On Monday evening a short musical programme, in which a number of children took part, was given. Afterwards Mr : N. Hill-disposed of the harvest gifts -by auction, all boing sold.
