GALA AT TE AWAMUTU. CAMBRIDGE SWIMMERS SUCCESSFUL. Cambridge was well represented at the To Awamutu Club’s gala last evening, four cars conveying a party of 20 swimmers' and enthusiasts to our neighbouring town. . The Cambridge swimmers were very successful; , Miss S. Mdvor won the 33 l-3yds and 66 2-3yds ladies’ events off scratch. She conceded four seconds to the limit competitor in the former and eight seconds in the latter, but by straight clean .swimming vvou comfortably in each event. Five boys started in the South Auckland 100yds intermediate championship which, event resulted in M. Byrne and S. Speight ’ registering a dead heat for first place in Tm 13 4-ss. Speight created a surprise in this event, and in dead heating with Byrne showed that ho is a rapidly improving swimmer, and with careful training he should be one of the club’s outstanding swimmers next season. Speight will have to be considered when the flying squadron team is being selected to take part in ■the championships at Morrinsville next month. In the boys’ relay the 1 Cambridge team (Speight, captain, Thompson, Shaw and Glanvillc) had an easy win over the remaining fivo teams. The last lap boy, ,Speight, touched half a length ahead of the second placed team. Hamilton were second and Te Awamutu third. The Cambridge boys are to be heartily,, congratulated., on their splendid win, which -is the-'result of training and good team work. Glanvillc registered a good lead, but Shaw did not swim straighj;, though the lead was well maintained. O. Thompson swam a splendid lap and put the issue beyond doubt. The team’s captain (Speight) took no chances and swimming in great style won as aforementioned. Other events in which Cambridge boys were placed were as follows: — Boys under 14: O.
