CRUSHED BY MACHINERY. MAN KILLED INSTANTLY. (By Telegraph—Press Association) WAIHI, Thursday. A man named Ryder Hungerford, who was handling machinery in the Talisman mine, was killed instantly this afternoon by part of the machinery falling upon him. DEATH OF PROMINENT NA33VE. NGATIAWA CHIEFTAIN. (By Telegraph—Press Association) WHAKATANE, this day. One of the foremost natives of New Zealand, Hurinui Apanui, a leading chief of the Ngatiawa tribe, nearly 70 years of age, died at Whakatahe Pa this morning. It is stated that Hurinui could trace his generology back further than any chief in the Dominion. He was a fine type of natice, over six feet, sturdily built/with a handsome figure and bearing—every inch a chief.
