PEDIGREE AYRSHIRES
DISAPPOINTING SALE NO INTEREST EVINCED. , The Farmers' Co-op. Auctioneering Co., Ltd., report: — At Fairfield on Monday last we offered on behalf of Mr R. McDermotr, of Hawke's Bay. a small consignment of pedigree Ayrshire cattle. In view of the energy recently displayed by isounc admirers of this breed, and the prophecies of popularity freely indulged in, a little enthusiasm was anticipated. There was an entire absence of anything of the kind. Whether the fault lies, in the breed or the breeder it is difficult to determine, but some obstacle assuredly retards the progress of the Ayrshire to distinction. The complaint so often expressed in regard to undersized teats could find no justification in the animals submitted by Mr McDcrmott; nevertheless the attendance of buyers, even spectators, was small, and competition lifeless.
By dint of patient negotiation, however, this bulk of the offering was ultimately disposed of, cows realising up to 35gns. This was obtained for Lot 3 "Pita of Spring-view," a'tested cow by The Count—Ruby's Favourite of Springview. Heifers, 2-year-old, in calf, made to 22'gns; bulls to 15gns.
