VALEDICTORY

FAREWELL TO MR AND MRS RUSSO. A most enjoyable farewell party was given to Air and Mrs B. Russo, of ‘ ‘ Trelawney. ” at the homestead, Pukokura. las! Saturday evening. About liO people were present, and the folding doors being open in the two main rooms, there was plenty of floor space for dancing. This pastime, interspersed with musical items, rendered by the guests, helped to pass the time most pleasantly. Before supper was served Air and Airs Russo were presented respectively with a tobacco pouch and silver match box, and silver cruet* stand, by Mr J. Blackman, on behalf of those present. Mr Blackman wished the host and hostess all the best of luck, and hoped that the presents would remind them of their stay in Pukekura and all their friends there. “For They Are Jolly Good Fellows” was thereupon rendered with great heartiness and applause.

Mr Russo in reply thanked everyone for their kindness, and said he would be sorry to leave behind so many friends when lie returned to Eastbourne (Wellington). The following were tlie musical items rendered:—Airs T. Patou, song. “Coming Home,” and “The Long, Long Trail”: Airs Brittain, song, “The Little Irish Girl”; Airs J. Blackman, song. “Sleepy Seas.” and “Saucy Walty*’; Air 0. Russo, song, “God Send You Back to Ale”: Afr C. Robinson, song, “Let the Rest of the World go by,” and “Leave me with a Smile”; Miss Hardy, violin solo, “Bells of St. Alary’s”; Air M. Wilkinson, recitation, “Not Understood”; Mr A. Russo, recitation; Mr B. Russo, senr., Italian songs with chorus.
