Stories about live frogs being found in cavities that appear to have been covered for centuries arc common, and the discoverers of such curiosities usually supply details that give no suggestion for-a reasonable explanation. Naturalists are usually satisfied that their evidence is correct. The latest story to reach “The Post” is sent by a Lower Hutt resident, Mr .T. C. Maeklcy, who is reminded of it by an article recently published. He states that in the year 18(51 he was working with another man in the goldmine of .John Cook & Co., at Sailor’s Gully, Bendigo, and in a cross drive 400 ft. from the surface took a frog out of the hard sandstone. The cavity in which the frog was found was quite smooth and damp, though not wet, and the animal was of fair size and quite bright and lively. There was much discussion among the miners as to how it got there, but no satisfactory conclusion could be reached. The frog was released in a neighbouring dam, and swam off as though it had spent its whole life in the water.
