ACCIDENT

CHILDREN'S NARROW ESCAPE

A runaway culminating in the smash up of a sulky, and two children being thrown out and badly cut and bruised, occurred in Victoria Street on Easter Saturday morning about ten o'clock It appears that two little boys named Stevenson, aged 13 and 10 years, were driving to town from Leamington. When opposite the Technical , School the backhand of the harness. broke, causing the horse to take fright. After prancing about, it dashed down the street, swerving to the side of the road. The horse and vehicle narrowly cscap cd striking Mr J. Jarrett's car standing there, and then crashed into the largo tree in front of the Chinese laundry. The vehicle turned a complete somersault and fell on to the pavement, throwing the boys u;;< against the door of the laundry. Both lads were badly bruised and cut about, one being rendered unconscious for a short period. Through the prompt action of Mr W. Miller, of the billiardroom, the injured lads were conveyed to his residence at the rear of the saloon, where they received medical attention by Dr Stapley, and were then removed to their home. It was most fortunate the children were not seriously injured. The sulky was badly wrecked.
