OCCUPATION OF THE RHINELAND FRENCH ADVANCE CAUSES ALARM (By Cable —Press Association) PARIS, Jan. 9. According to the newspaper Oeuvre, France will take action on Thursday, when General Degoutte’s advance guards will pass the frontiers of the neutral zone, fronting Dusseldorf, Duisberg and Ruhr. The paper says:— "When M. Poincaro mounts the tribune in the Chamber of Deputies, France will havo already piled arms on Essen soil.” Belgian soldiers will accompany the French soldiers and Allied engineers. The Petit Parisien states that the French engineers that have arrived at Dusseldorf cannot proceed to the Rhuf because there are no French troops there, and Belgian and Italian engineers will go there instead of the Frenchmen.
According to the Journal another contingent of French engineers has gone to Dusseldorf with detachments of railway workers and five officers. The Matin’s Coblenz correspondent states that the engineers will be accompanied to Essen by 25,000 soldiers. Violent anti-French Tracts are being circulated in the Rhineland.
It is stated by the Petit Parisien that the only soldiers to be sent to the Ruhr are those replacing General Degoutte’s army, which is spread over too large an area.

PARIS, Jan. 10,
The Petit Parisien states that the French troops at Dusseldorf and the Belgians at Aix La Chapelle are requisitioning motor cars. Spahis occupied the Luxemburg frontier customs offices.
The Matin states the control of coal deliveries at 'Essen docs not justify the German press’ vehement outcry. If the troops are compelled to introduce martial law it will bo the Germans’ own fault. If, on the other hand, calm prevails, M. Poincare will notify Germany that the occupation will be limited to supervision by armed police. ( REMOVAL or HEADQUARTERS gY GOAL SYNDICATE BERLIN, Jan. 10. The Rhcnisch Westfalian Coal Syndicate has removed its headquarters from Essen to Hamburg, in consequence of the French advance. Representatives of the chief industries conferred with Herr Cuno, who promised his support and readiness to make great sacrifices in order to counteract the French move. It is reported that British, American, Belgian and possibly French - business men will shortly confer with German commercial magnates, to discuss exchange of goods and development of business relations.

JOURNALISTS TO GO TO RUHR
PARIS, Jan. 10.
Journal’s Berlin correspondent has sent a statement to the effect that a report is current that Germany-'intends to withdraw her ambassador from Paris under pretext of furnishing a report, and then giving him indefinite leave.
Matin’s Berlin correspondent says Germany is planning diplomatic action in London, New York, Rome, and neutral capitals, suggesting in view of France’s breach of treaty by tho occupation of Ruhr, Germany should bo freed from treaty payment during such occupation.
The Government is taking a special trainload of English, American, and neutral journalists to Ruhr.
BELGIUM’S ATTITUDE

LONDON, Jan. 10.
The Daily Mail’s Brussels jcorrespondent states Theunis in the Chamber declared Belgium’s decision to enter the Ruhr area did not indicate a spirit off vengeance' and anger, but was the only means left of forcing Germany to pay.
The Times’ Marseilles correspondent reports that large centmgents of French troops ai arriving from Africa to ; take tho places of French advancing, into Germany.-
