FOOTBALL
SAGE MEMORIAL WINNERS
The competition of 1922 for the Sage Memorial Cup, which decided the premier senior ttMim of the Hamilton Union, was brought to a conclusion on Saturday last, when City, by safely accounting for /Stars, earned the right to have their name inscribed on the trophy. In going*through*-the season without a loss (says the Waikato Times) the wearers of the maroon livery put up a distinctly creditable performance, and, writing from memory, one which has rarely, if
ever, been accomplished in the history of games associated with the local championship. City won their nine games, the majority by very substantia! margins, and could always be depended on to* display football which kept the Opposition on the qui vive, and provided keen, interest for the public. Their superior record, is convincingly shown by the fact that they scored in all 1(H) points, while the comparatively small uumber of 41 were all that wore notched against rheui. The attention the members always gave' to training was in no small measure material to the success which attended their play during the season, and in this respect they could always give the opposing clubs a lesson which litis brought its own reward. On Wednesday next, !)th August, a representative match will be played between the Waikato and Auckland teams at the showgrounds, Hamilton, Three Cambridge players have been selected in the Waikato team. They are: Thompson, lan Penko and Patterson..
