ARBOR DAY CHILDREN’S CELEBRATIONS 1 (From Our Own Correspondent). Last Friday afternoon the Goodwood school celebrated Arbour Day, the children being given a half holiday. During the afternoon willing hands, undertook the trimming of the trees and the tidying of the grounds generally, with good results. Later in the afternoon the children entertained the assemblage with a small concert, their performance reflecting great credit on the teachers. A successful social afternoon was brought to a close with a bounteous afternoon tea, provided by the ladies in their customary good style and taste. . Items were given by Jessie Anderson, Margery Bowling, Peggy Giles, Kathleen Goodwin, Ernest Gibbons, Tom Hamerton, the lower division from Monavale school acted “The Captain” and the upper division danced a minuet. Mr Arthur Towscy kindly played the accompaniments. The most important item was, of course, the supper, which, under Mrs Giles’ supervision, surpassed even the Monavale ladies' usual high, standard. The committee contemplates making considerable improvements -to the grounds and surroundings of the school which will entail considerable expenditure. For, the purpose of raisingfunds for this, work, a series of social evenings will 6 be held in the school. This will also provide a little recreation for the district. ' , ,
