The death occurred in England ori July 23rd of Mrs Elizabeth Penelope Allen, widow of the late Mr William Shepherd Allen, a well known colonist, at the age of 75 years. Mrs Allen, whose maiden name was Chandlish, arrived in New Zealand from ■ Staffordshire in 1883, and settled with her husband and family at Annandale, Morrinsyille. Mrs Allen frequently visited England, and took up her permanent residence there when her husband died some years ago. Among her family are Lieutenant-Colonel I*. C. Allen, D. 5.0., and Lieutenant-General S. S. Allen, C.M.G., D. 5.0., of Morrinsville.
