BOROUGH AFFAIRS
(To the Editor). Sir,—Re your report of the Borough Council meeting: First of all, I made an application to the Council to form a small portion of Richmond Street, being about 10 chains, from Taylor Street to the comer of King Street. My offer was that when that portion of the road was formed I would spread the gravel free of charge, and also give £2 towards the work. This was agreed to. Judging'by Cr. James' statement, he is running away with the idea that there is too much money being spent at this end of the town. If so, it is no fault of mine, as none of the work has been done which I asked for. The Council tipped several loads of earth in the middle of the street, and not metal as reported. My opinion is that they do not want free labour and £2. given in. It would be necessary to have a light on the comer of McLean and Taylor Streets, this being the main road at the end of the Borough, and the streets being in a shocking condition. They say any excuse is better than none, and this applies to the .Supervisor's excuse about having no discs to finish Richmond Street. —I am, etc., C. A. ROBERTS. Richmond Street, July 2.1, 1922. P.S.—My last year's rates, fully paid up, amounted to £45 19/2, while Messrs J. J. and V. Roberts' rates, also fully paid up, amounted to £4l 12/7. This shows that we, as fairly large ratepayers, are entitled to some consideration. —C.A.R.
