FOOTBALL

END OF THE SEASON. FANCY DRESS MATCH. The football season —a remarkably] successful one in this district —will be concluded this afternoon with a fancy dress match, East v. West, to be played on the Square, commencing at 2.15 p.m. The proceeds of this match will be devoted to assisting players who have unfortunately met with accidents during the season. There will be no charge for admission, but a collection will be taken up, and we are sure lovers of football will make a generous response, and not fail to drop a coin in the collection box.

The match itself should provide a good afternoon’s sport. We hear there will be some fearful and w-onderfut costumes worn, and spectators will undoubtedly have no end of fun. A very] largo attendance is hoped for and expected. THE LEAGUE GAME IMPROVED FORM OF L. STEWART A special meeting of the Cambridge Rugby League was held in Cambridge on Thursday evening for the purpose of selecting from the members of the Union the player who had shown the most improved form during the season. Three representatives were present on behalf of the citizens in addition to delegates from the Suburbs, City Rovers and Power Board teams. Five nominations' were received: — L. Stewart, R. Pau, C. McMillan, Ividd and J. Ilemmingway. The chairman, Mr R. Montgomery, stated before the voting commenced that the trophy, a gold football badge, had been presented by Mr Ernest Asher, who recently visited Cambridge as manager of the Auckland City team. A ballot was then taken the final result being announced in favour of L. Stewart. The selection committee was composed of Messrs It. 1 Montgomery and Geo. Foster (City Rovers), E. Mooney, Geo. Drew; J. Mclvor and E. Buttimore (Suburbs); W. H. Wainhouse (Power Board), and Messrs A. Harris, L. Young V. G. Boulton (citizen’s representatives).
