LEAMINGTON HALL

QUESTION OF LIGHTING

ELECTKICITY TO BE INSTALLED

The lighting of the Leamington To/.'ii Hall was discussed at length at the Town Board meeting on Thursday afternoon, when the chairman (Mr W. White) said that at present a temporary electric lighting equipment was being used. They should either have electric lighting made permanent, or revert to the old aerogen gaslight. The position was that they had a, good gas plant, and the electric installation would cost approximately £3O. Mr Keeley, senr., proposed that the old system of lighting the hall be retained.

This was seconded by the chairman pro forma. Mr Mack said if they put electric light in the hall perhaps they could get a little more rent, and Mr L. T. Iveeley th/ught there would be no difficulty in that direction. Undoubtedly the people wanted electric light put in.

The Chairman: It means scrapping £3O or £4O worth of plant. Mr Jarrett then moved as an amendment that electric light be installed in the hall.

This was seconded by Mr Harris, who said that if electric light were installed it would save attendance at the hall.

The chairman pointed out that there was considerable| loss of benzoline, which evaporated, and this made the gas light more expensive. The gas needed a man to look after it.

The amendment was then put and carried, the only dissentient being Mr Keeley, senr. The disposal of the areogen gas plant was left to the chairman and secretary with power to act. Mr L. T. Keeley said it was necessary for a caretaker to be appointed for tho hall, and this view was supported by the chairman and other members. The charges for use of the hall were also discussed, members being of opinion that these needed revision, and that they might be slightly increased. i On the motion of the chairman, seconded by Mr Mack, it was resolved that'applications bo invited for the position of caretaker, applicants to state remuneration required, to be in by next meeting of the Board; also that the tariff for letting the hall be revised at next meeting.

It. was also decided to advertise for tenders for electric light installation at the hall, ten or eleven lights, same to be in by next meeting.
