Farewell.
PRESENTATION TO THE VICAR,
A.t Tuesday evenings meeting of parishioners of St. Andrew’s Church, Cambridge, Mr b’. J. Brooks handed to the Vicar, Rev. C. ■ Mortimer Jones (who leaves tomorrow on an extended holiday to Great Britain), a purse of sovereigns, on behalf of "a number of his friends, as a “lubricant” to assist him on his passage home.
This was feelingly acknowledged by the vicar who said hs valued it the more as it showed him that efforts to do what he considered right and just had made him many friends; and he appreciated the kindly action extremely. During his absence the Cruickshank would act as his locum tenens and he asked all to extend to that gentleman the good assistance they Fad given to him. Mr Cruickshank was a stranger to many of them,’ but when they became acquainted with him they would respect and like him;’and with the Rev. Connolly’s assistance all would go well in the parish, he felt sure, during his temporary absence. Hefres’iments were then handed rpu:. ', after which the meeting terminated.
