THE ONLY ONE
Two Englishmen were dining at a restaurant in Germany. In answer to it remark about the Emperor, made by one of them, the other said : ‘‘He’s a hot-headed fool.”
His friend warned him that it was !ese*majeste to make uncomplimentary remarks about the Kaiser, and that if he had been heard be would probably have to reckon with the police.
Sure enough, as they were leaving ffie restaurant, an inspector of police touched the culprit on the shoulder, and told-him he must take him into custody for using an offensive epithet in connection with the Emperor’s name.
“Oh, but I was speaking of N the Emperor of Austria,” lied the Englishman.
“Oh, no,” said the inspector, “yoi, can’t stuff me like that. There’s only one Emperor who’s a ‘hot-headed fool.’
