THE WATER RATES CASE.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, — As it seems to please Mr Hally to think that he won the water rate case, I will not deny him the agreeable little fiction, but seeing that the Borough has recovered all that was demanded, and has been at no expense beyond a few shillings for rehearing fee, I leave your intelligent readers to discover, if they can, where Mr Hally’s victory comes in. That his action “ was in the interests of the ratepayers as a whole ” appears to me another little pleasantry. It is I who am studying “ the interests of the ratepayers as a whole,” by endeavouring to collect all rates justly due, irrespective of persons, and expect to show by the end of March that I have been success* ful, as in this instance. The only regrettable part is that through Mr Hally’s action in the matter, so much of bis valuable time, and mine, was lost in attending Court.—l am, etc., F. J. Brooks.
