Fears that the wharf labourers strike at Newcastle would affect the inter-State companies have been dispelled by an arrangement made between the federated steamship owners and the waterside unions, confining the trouble to its present limits. In connection with the delay to the steamer Manuka, the Premier (Mr Wade) is taking steps to prevent a congestion of trade at Newcastle standing in the way of passenger steamers obtaining bunker coal. HEAT WAVE. Sydney, Jan. 16. A heat wave is being experienced in New South Wales and Victoria, the temperature ranging from 102 to 117 degrees.
