A monster meeting of all persons interested in the proposal to form a Town Board district at Cambridge West will be held in the Public Hall to-morrow evening at 7.80 o’clock.

Mr Eobt. Peake, of Mangapiko, was out shooting on horseback on Tuesday and took a short cub by jumping a fence. The horse negotiated the fence alright, but on landing .slipped and fell heavily on Mr Peake’s arm, dislocating his elbow joint. The sufferer was brought into Cambridge and had the injured limb set by Dr. Eoberts.

Considering the short notice given, and the damp night, the dance at the Alexandra Halljast night was well patronised, about twenty couples being present. The floor was in excellent order, and those present spent an enjoyable evening. Mr T. Boyce was the M.C., and Mrs Lowe supplied the pianoforte music. An instructive paper on “ The Philosophy of Life ” was read by Mr Hooper at the Men’s Prcspyterian Bible Class Society on Tuesday evening, there being a fair attendance of members. An interesting discussion followed the reading of the paper, and Mr Hooper was accorded a vote of thanks.

To-day completes the fiftieth year since the signing of the constitution of the Church of the Provincd of New Zealand, commonly called the Church of England. A form of special prayers and thanksgiving has been prepared 'for use in all the Anglican Churches to-day and on Sunday, of which a copy has been sent us.

Messrs McGill and Middleton are the purchasers of Messrs Death Bros.’ Hora Hora Estate, situated near Cambridge. The estate comprises nearly nine thousand acres, and, it it said, changed hands at £30,000. The new osyners, who take take possession shortly, belong to Waiuku district. They have already disposed of 400 acres of the estate to Mr Edward Allen, at a very fair figure. The shooting match arranged between the local squadron and the No. 8 Auckland Garrison Artillery will not eventuate, as the Aucklanders are unable to send a team. There will be a practice on the range for the shield competition on Saturday afternoon. Members of the squadron are reminded of the camp, and that all baggage is to be is the station to-morrow (Friday) evening. At the meeting of the Waipa County Council, Mr Dalbcth, of Te Kowhai, wrote asking if the council supplied poisoned wheat.—Mr Proudlock also wrote on the subject, asking the council to undertake the supply of poisoned wheat. —The Chairman moved that the request be refused.—Cr. Eothwell seconded.—Cr. Duxfield moved as an amendment that the council undertake the business and call a confcrnce of local bodies.—Cr. Bell, in seconding, said the time had come when measures would have to be taken. Birds were getting too numerous.—Cr. Grant said he would like to sec the birds thinned out.—Cr. Mackinder thought that the people who wanted poisoned wheat should pay for it. —The amendment was carried, and the conference is to meet on Thursday, 4th July, at 10 a.m. at the old council chambers, Hamilton.

It is reported that the National Hotel is changing hands, Mr MacKcnzic having disposed of his interest to Mr O’Connor, of Auckland. . The Rev. Jas. Fussed, curate of St. Andrew’s, will leave, his charge at the end of the present month. The vestry of the Church is endeavouring to get a suitable man to fill the vacancy. Regarding a letter received from the Cambridge District High School Committee, Mr George George reported to the Education Board yesterday that the population of Cambridge and district was insufficient in itself to provide a number of pupils in cookery and woodwork to employ a staff of teachers solely for that purpose. It was only by working manual training schools at Hamilton and Cambridge with the same staff that the necessary expenditure could be met.
