At Ashburton on Monday last the thermometer registered 92-5 degrees in the shade. Bush fires are still raging in Southland, and two more sawmills have been destroyed. The yachting race at Melbourne for the La Carabine Cup was won by the Eawhiti. Mr Carruthers, the New South Wales Premier, announces his intention to resign on account of ill-health. Two boys were convicted and discharged at Auckland for discharging pearifles in a public place. Sir Joseph Ward will arrive in Auckland on Saturday, and address a public meeting at the Royal Albert Hall in the evening. A small boat, containing two men 1 named Aldenfield and Daly, was blown out to sea from Island Bay, Wellington, on Tuesday morning. Nothing has been seen of the boat or its occupants.
