CURE FOR CONSUMPTION.
JAPANSE DOCTOR'S CLAIM. Before a meeting at Tokio of the Medical Societies of Japan, Dr Ishigami announced for several years he had been successfully experimenting in the treatment of tuberculosis with a new antitoxin of his own discovery, which, unlike others did not result in a rise cf temperature in the patient. He had distributed supplies to twenty hospitals throughout the country, and also to emiment military and medical officers, who were satisfied with the results. Taking a general average, one-third of the patients were cured. The treatment however, could not be applied in cases where the constitution was greatly reduced. In the first stages of consumption the treatment proved effective after at the outside, five or six months. Reports received from seven hospitals showed that out of 219 patients 79 were absolutely cured, 80 were much improved, 15 deaths occurred, and 45 ceased the treatment from some cause or another. The statement has created widespread interest. Dr Ishigami is an eminent bacteriological specialist.
