KIRIKIRIROA ROAD BOARD
The usual monthly meeting of the above board was held in the County Council offices, Hamilton East, thin morning. Mr T. Uinton, chairman, presided, and there were also present Me-srs F. F. Ihompson, F. W.
Thomas and F. A. Wilson. Mi A. J. Smith, the secretary of the Waikato Automobile Association, wrote asking the board to widen the Cambridge toad at Seddon'a Hill. Thin place had been the scene of one bad accident, and there was always a likelihood of others. The association considered a further width of six feet would meet the case. Attention was also drawn to the almost impassable slate of the road in front of the old State Farm homestead. In the winter about, two chains were extremely bad. —With regard to the first part of the letter the board decided tu do the work as soon as funds were available, and the latter request would be attended to during the coming summer.
Mr i). E, Finlaysun, clerk to the Tuhikaramea Road Hoard, wrote asking for particulars and prices of the Taupiri metal, ot which they would be prepared to take 2000 yards if the quality and quote were reasonable. The clerk was instructed to reply that the board had sufficient work in hand to take the whole supply of metal from the quarry for some time. Mr Ceo. Jack, agent for the Royal Insurance Company, wrote soliciting the board's workmen's insurance for the ensuing year.—The clerk stated that lie had already renewed with the New Zealand Insurance Company, but as their rates were higher than those quoted by the Royal he was instructed to write pointing this out. "
11. Winter reported that during the month he had patched up bad places on .-eddon's road, and put in a set of 18in pipes on the comers near O'Neill's at Hillside. He put in a small culvert at the top of Craig's Hill, and widened the road near Crosby's on the tramroad. He took 4ft oil' the top of Whitten's Hill, and widened the earthwork at the bottom. He had put in pipes at Kenny's Cully, and was busy with the earthwork. He recommended
claying parts of Osborne's Flat, as it was very lad with loose sand, and several of the water tables on the I'iako road required tilling up. C. 11. Mason reported that he had graded and sanded the River, Kainui and Peterson's roads, and also put in several concrete pipes near Littlewood's landing, and did a good many repairs to the Orini road. He recommended metalling a mile and a-half of the Taupiri-Ngaruawahia road at a cost of £3 IDs to £-1 a chain of 12yds to the chain. Thirty-six yards of metal were required for the approach to the Whangamairo bridge, at a cost of A'l'J. He also asked that the board" should write to Mr W. Hall, of Gordonton, instructing him to till in a hole made in front of his shop, and also instruct the contractors at Orini to use more drays for carting medal which was going along too slowly. The reports were adopted, and it was decided to follow Foreman Mason's recommendations as soon as possible. Mr E. .1. Fairburn, engineer to the board, reported that the supply of metal to the Taupiri-Orini road bad been started, and was of good quality. Carting had been started with three drays, and he was calling on the carters to supply another four within a week. The sanding of the Orini road was finished at the far end, and the contractor would start on the Btore end within a week. The big pipe culvert authorised at the last meeting had been put in satisfactorily by Foreman Mason, and the old bridge piled up. McKinnon's pit had been pegged out. The contractor would resume the contract on the Tauhei-Woodlands road shortly, and Biennan had made a start on his three uncompleted contracts at Kainui.
Accounts amounting to Jt'3Bl Is 3d were pasßed for payment.
