" The Stars and Stripes"
WHAT IT STANDS FOR. Received 12.20 am., 17th. Washington, June 16. President Wilson, in an address in connection with Flag Day, wondered at those who used the American flag boastfully. The flag meant that for th-» future the national power would be justly used. It stood for self-' possession and its asserting of the right of one nation to serve other nations, not aggression or self-ag-grandisement. It was a pitiful thing to have to make an apology for anything Americans did under shelter of the flag.
