INTERESTING TEST CASE

A UNION FINE. By Telegraph—Press Association. Dunedin Thursday. An interesting test case was brought before Mr Widdowson.S.M., this morning, to determine whether an industrial union had the right to indict lines on members for nonattendance at union meetings held on Sundays. The parties to the dispute were the Otago Tramways Union and Dtncan Ingle, a member of the union. The claim was for 3s only, it being a friendly action. Mr Hanlon, for the defendant, explained that there was no direct legal authority on the point, but he submitted that if a Court of Justice couldn't fine on Sunday, an industrial union had no power to penalise a member for non-attendance on Sunday. Judgment was reserved.
