The Prevailing Fashions
CONDEMNED AS INDECENT.
WHERE ARE THE POLICE ?
Received 8.30 a.m., sth. Melbourne, March 5
The Australasian Women's Conference resolved that all members of the Association should refrain from following the prevailing fashion of indecorous attire. The mover, in warm condemnation of the prevailing fashions, said it was dreadful to get into trams and trains with women who had lost all sense of decency and modesty. She was surprised that the Government, had not taken action; if the unfortunate class of women wore such costumes the police would arrest them. It was degrading to respectable women to see others wearing insufficient clothing to cover the body. She saw a window display of tango that the underskirts were being viewed by more men than women. A delegate interjected "Like their cheek!" Another speaker argued that women shoald take action to prevent Buch displays of indecency, which were shocking and disgraceful.
