THE VICTORIAN GOVERNOR
London, January 12. Sir A. L. Stanley, the new Governor of Victoria, and Lady Stanley leave London on the 21st inst., to join the Osterley at Toulon. They were entertained at luncheon bv the Agent-General for Victoria today, and assured of a warm welcome in Victoria. Received 6 p.m., 13th. London, January 13. Among others present were Mr L. Harcourt, Secretary of State for the Colonies, and Mrs Harcourt, Lord Sydenham, ex-Governor of Victoria, and Lady Sydenham, Lord and Lady Sheffield, Lord and Lady Emmott, Major-General Sir A. Talbot, exGovernor of Victoria, Sir H. W. Just, Sir John Anderson, Sir Charles Lucas, Sir John Taverner, ex-Agent-General for Victoria, and Lady Taverner, and many Victorians. Mr Mcßride eulogised the appointment, and read a telegram from Mr W. Watt, Premier of Victoria, welcoming the new Governor and his wife. Sir A. Stanley, in reply, said he was deeply sensible of the kindnesses already received from him by Victorians in London. He looked forward to a profitable and pleasant stay. Mr L. Harcourt, in moving a vote of thanks to Mr Mcßride, paid a tribute to the work the Agent-Gen-eral had already accomplished on behalf of Victoria.
