BEE-KEEPERS’ CONFERENCE

By Telegraph.--Press Association. Wellington, Wednesday. The ihird annual conference of the National Federated Beekeepers’ Association of New Zealand was opened today by Hon. R. 11. Rhodes. From information which he had obtained the Minister said the association represented between 11,000 and 12,000 hives, indicating the extent to which the industry had grown. In 1900 the output had been valued at £12,000, and in 1913 at ,1M5,000. The principal object of the conference was to discuss the question of export, which this year would probably be 135 tons. At present the exporters had the grading done at the request of the shippers, but he understood they wished it to be made compulsory. He believed they were all of one mind regarding Hie amendments required in the Apiaries Act, and lie

was sure they would have tho sympathy of Mr Massey. The speaker promised to do what he could to make grading compulsory.
