HAMILTON SWIMMING CLUB

A meeting of the committee of tho above club was held in the Commercial Hotel last night, there was a good attendance of member?, Mr J. Varney occupying the chair.

The offer of Mr Vaile to present a trophy at the next carnival was accepted with thanks. It was also decided to open an account at the Bank of New Zealand, the secretary and president being authorised to sign cheques.

The secretary was instructed to write to the Auckland Swimming Association applying for a permit to hold an Inter-provincial 22U yards championship race at a carnival to be held some tin e in March. The following officials were appointed for carnival nights, their appointments to bold good tor the season: Handicapper. Mr N. Bussed; starter, Mr Harris; check starter, Mr Tarr; judges, Messrs A. E. Manning, L). C. Missen and J. A. Hair; captain, Mr J. Cooper; vice-captain, Mr Rees; result and -press steward, Mr C. Houghton; ollicial ttme-keeperS; Messrs Geo. Cork.S. llarker and U. Tristram; call stewards, Messrs Eagan, Cowley and Richards; dtcsssing-ruom steward, Mr H. Sutherland.

On a motion of Mr N. Russell it was resolved that all handicaps should be withheld at the next carnival from competitors and members who failed to pay their entrance fees and subscriptions after being notified to that effect. The hon. members’ subscription to the club was fixed at 2a Od per year. The date of the next carnival was fixed for Wednesday, February 26th, and the following programme was drawn up; -Handicap Novice Race. GGyd.s; Diving, Running, Standing and Fancy; breast-stroke, 66yds; Open Handicap, 100 yds; School boys’ Race, 13 and under, 33yds, School Boys’ Race, over 13, 66 yds; Ladies’ Handicap, 33yds; Corfu Dive, Cigar and Umbrella Race, Handicap Relay Race, teams of five open boarding houses, firms and societies.

The oilers of Messrs Buckland and Houghton to donate trophies in the Coil'u Diving and Cigar and Umbrella events respectively were received with applause. A committee, consisting of Messrs Varney, Cooper, Russell, Buckland and Hair, was set up to meet the Mayor at 7 p.m. on' Friday night to discuss matters connected with the club and the baths generally.
