TRAGIC DEATH AT KIHIKIHI

We regret exceedingly to hear of the death of Mr G. H. Mackinder, which occurred at Kihikihi under somewhat tragic circumstances at J3 a.m. this morning. Mr Mackinder has been in indifferent health of late, and at a meeting of the Waipa County Council on Monday tendered his resignation in consequence. The details of the occurrence are somewhat meagre, but it is stated that at about 3 a.m. today Mr Mackinder got out of bed and left the house. Shortly afterwards _ his son heard a peculiar noise outside, and rn investigating, found that his father had fallen down a well, which is about 40 feet deep. Ihe body was recovered shortly afterwards, but life was extinct. It is supposed that the fatality was the result of an accident; but the mystery will probably never be satisfactorily solved. The deceased, who was 74 years of age, was oi j of the best and most respected settlers in the district An inquest

will be held by Mr J. B. Teasclale, coroner, tomorrow, and the funeral will leave his residence at 3.40 p.m. _____________
