The Raglan Seat

MR R. F. BOLLARD AT CLAUDELANDS.

Mr R. F. Bollard, Opposition candidate for Raglan, addressed a good meeting in the Church of Christ. Claudelands, last night.- Mr J. Gordon occupied the chair, and in introducing the speaker commended his candidature to the serious consideration of the electors. Mr Bollard, he said, was an old and tried friend, who came of good stock and would prove a worthy representative of the district. (Applause). On rising Mr Bollard was greeted with enthusiasm, lie spoke for about an hour un similar lines to his previous addresses, claiming that the Government had outlived its usefulness. and that its only policy was: “Tell us what you want, and we will give it to you.” The candidate then dealt exhaustively with the eleven planks of the Opposition platform, expressing himself as a strong supporter of them all, and was frequently applauded. At the conclusion of his address a number of questions wore asked and answered readily. Mr Bollard said he was a firm believer in the threefifths majority, expressing the opinion that the bare majority was not likely to give tbc necessary stability, and was sure to prove unsatisfactory. He was opposed to the single tax. He favoured a universal half-holiday and Saturday at that. He would support the borrowing of money for the utilisation of our water power, providing it would be reproductive. He thought compulsory military training was the finest thing ever introduced into the Duminion. On the motion of Mr S. J. Bennett, seconded by Mr J. Aiken, a vote ol thanks and confidence was carried by acclamation amidst prolonged ap plausc.

Hcwett, Independent Libe- ! ral candidate for Raglan, addressed a large meeting at Bukekoho on Monday evening, and a god meeting at Buni last evening, receiving a good heating and a hearty vote of thanks at each place. COLONEL BELL AT HAMILTON. Col. Allen Bell, Opposition candidate for the Raglan scat, will address ! the electors in the Town Hall, Hamilton, tomorrow evening, at 7.30 p.m. The Waikato Seat. MR J. A. YOUNG AT ROTO-O--RANGI. On Monday night Mr J. A. Young delivered a splendid address to a good audience at the Roto-o-rangi schoolhouse. Mr E. B. Cox was voted to the chair, and in introducing the candidate said Mr Young was well known in Waikato for many years as a hard and capable worker in the public interests. Mr Young had an excellent reception, and spoke for about an hour and a hr If, during which time he was frequently applauded. At the conclusion of the address a number of questions were asked and satisfactorily answered; the candidate’s thoroughness appealing very much to his audience. On the proposition of Mr V. Holbeche, seconded by Mr A. Cameron, jum. a unanimous vote of thanks and confidence was accorded the candidate with much enthusiasm.
