HOCKEY.

Yesterday afternoon the Cambridge and Leamington hockey teams played a match on Victoria Square of the former town, which resulted in Leamington being victors by four goals to one. The winning team are a very good lot. and with a little instruction they will be a hard nut for any of the Waikato Hockey Clubs to crack, for they practice regularly, keep in good fettle, each man knows his position on the field, and they obey their captain. In contradistinction the Cambridge players seldom practice, they do not pay much attention to their captain’s instructions, and it is not often that a full team rolls up to a match. This was the case yesterday, when several juniors had to be included in the team. E. Faulkner was captain of the Leamington team, and those who scored were K. Arrner and I'. Hicks, the latter notching three out of the four goals. K. Court captained the home players, and the only one to scoie was Roy Roberts. Mr H. Lewis controlled the game.

Some steps should he taken to stop football being played on Victoria Square when a hockey match is proceeding. It was a great nuisance yesterday, and the ball frequently was kicked on to the hockey ground. There is plenty of room for the footballers to have a kick or two without interfering with the hockey players, but it appears as if the footballers think they have the right to the whole of the square whenever they like, and it is time they were made to observe common courtesy to the hockeyites.
