National Dairy Show.

Details of the school contests at the National Dairy Show to be held at Palmerston North next June are just issued in leaflet form by the secretary, Mr J. C. Lane. The conditions are as follow, and entries close on June 8 next:— Public School Gardens. —

Exhibits must be the bona fide produce from the school garden belonging to the exhibiting school, and a certificate to that effect supplied at time of entry by the head teacher and chairman of school committee. All entries must be in the name of the school. Prize money to be remitted to the chairman of school committee, and may only be expended in school garden prizes. All exhibits should be clean and fresh, and correctly named on cards. All exhibits and displays must be benched and reidy for judging by (j p.m. on Monday, June 21, 1909. Class 154.—Division for display of the results of garden experiments and nature study collections undertaken during the current year, embracing products of the soil, observation charts, and other details carried out by the school illustrating the syllabus prescribed by the Board of Education for the district in which the school is situated. Exhibit to fill Bft frontage by 4ft dee)), with wall backing.

A subsidy of £2 10s will be paid to the schoolmaster of school making a suitable display. With the object of encouraging neat and judiciously arranged educational displays of the exhibits in the school bays, the prize of £lO donated by Mr J. E. Nathan of London, will be awarded as follows:—lst, £4; 2nd, 42; 3rd, £2; 4th, £l. Prizes arc offered for each of the following classes: Ist prize, ss; 2nd prize, 2s (id. Entry free:—Potatoes, 71b; cabbage, 4; carrots, 4; parsnips, 4; onions, 71b; mangolds, 4; turnips, 4; beet, 4. —Natural History.— For open competition, schools eligible to compete. First prize, £2; second prize, £1; third prize, 10s. Entry fee, 2s 6d. Class 163.—Collection of dried grasses, grown in the provincial districts cf Wellington, Hawke’s Bay, or Taranaki. The method cf mounting, labelling, and general appearance of the collection to be taken into consideration in awarding the prizes. Class 164. —Collection of injurious New Zealand weeds, grown in the above districts. The method of mounting, labelling, and general appearance of the collection to be taken into consideration in awarding the prizes.

Class 165.—Collection of insects njurious to agriculture and horticulture. The method of mounting, labelling, and general appearance of the collection to be taken into consideration in awarding the prizes.
