Raglan County Council.

The following is the conclusion of the report of the Ralgan County Council meeting last week:— —-Accounts. Accounts amounting to £2597 4s 8d were passed for payment. —Opotoru Bridge Maintenance.— In reply to the town board’s letter re this matter, it was resolved that the county, having the power to levy a special rate over the special area for such work, and agrees to the board’s suggestion, and declines the offer of 25 per cent. —Roads and Bidges. —

The Chief Engineer of Roads had asked for information re the number of bridges over 12 feet, and total length of same within the Raglan County; also the total length of cart roads, total length of metalling, and the total length of graded and formed bridle tracks, and the county engineer laid the following information on the table:—Bridges: Te Akau Riding, No. 0; Onewhero, 19, length 1100 ft; Whangape, No. 29, length 950 ft; Waingaro, No. 36, length 1350 ft; Karamu, No. 16, length 940 ft; Pirongia, No. 7, length 550 ft; Whangaroa, No. 13, length 50ft; Karioi, No. 10, length 450 ft; total number 130, length 5910 ft. Roads: Te Akau, dray 5, bridle 5, metalling 0; Onewhero, 70, 20, 12; Whangape, 100, 40, 1; Waingaro, 60, 10, 21; Whangaroa, 40, 5, 3; Karoi, 60, 10, 4; Karamu, £5, 5, 0; Pirongia, 20, 5, 1; totals, 380, 100, 42. This return showed that there was a total of 480 miles of formed dray and bridle roads, and 42 miles of metalling.

—Rangers.— _ Councillors were authorised to employ rangers to prevent the running of cattle on roads. —Stainsbury Road.— Cr. Riley was instructed to do some necessary work on this road. —University Road. — Cr. Johnstone was authorised to fell the bush on this road. —Office Site. — It was resolved to acquire a portion of Jackson’s property for an office site at a cost of £lO, and to invite tenders for the disposal of the present one. —Whaingaroa Riding. Cr. Edmonds was authorised to expend £lO on the Kauroaroad. —Whang-ape. — Cr. Annandale was authorised to make necessary arrangements for metal breaking for next spring. —Re Digging Gum.— Cr. McKinnon brought up the matter of natives digging gum, and it was resolved to write to the Commissioner of Crown Lands asking if permission had been given. —Maori Hill.—Cr. A. McKininon asked for authority to expend a sum of £3O to effect repairs. The matter was left in the hands of the Cr. and the engineer. The clerk was instructed to write to the Noxious Weeds Department pointing out that a portion of this road is almost blocked. —Karioi. — Cr. Bankart was authorised to expend £SO on various works within the riding. —Wharf Light.— Cr. Bankart asked that the harbourmaster be instructed to erect a lamp at the shore end of the wharf, and to arrange for the lighting of same when required. —Agreed to.
