If Mr Kettle and Mr Lundon happen to meet professionally they can generally be depended upon to create a little diversion, which, in most instances, does not add materially to the dignity and decorum of the court. They seem to act upon one another like flint and tinder, and sparks radiate as from a Catherine wheel. The latest skirmish occurred on Wednesday, when Mr Kettle heatedly called upon the notorious "Jerry" to produce a lease. The latter refused to do so, and intimated that he was quite capable of conducting his own case in his own peculiar way. Mr Kettle again demanded the document and referred to the waste of time that was going on, to which Mr Lundon retorted that Mr Kettle wasted more time of the court than all the lawyers in Auckland rolled into one, or something to that effect, and still refused to obey the ruling of the court. With that the Kettle boiled over and threatened punishment for contempt amongst other things. After about an hour's sparring, Mr Lundon produced the document, which proved to be unstamped, and a line of £5 was inflicted. Yesterday morning the incident was again referred to, when after mutual explanations Mr Lundon apologised and everything ended happily. Such ebullitions from Bench and Bar are fairly frequent in Auckland and the effect cannot, by any stretch of the imagination, be called edifying.
