Manawaru.
Thirty-six applications were received by the directors of the Manawaru Co-operative Dairy for the posiion of manager of the butter factory at Manawaru. Seventeen applications were also received for the position of manager of the creamery just erected by the company at Waharoa. After due consideration the directors appointed Mr J. Dickey, of Southland, manager df the butter factory, and Mr Gilbert manager of the creamery. Mr Dickey is an expert buttermaker, and he won the first prize last year for an essay on “Butter Manufacture.” Mr Gilbert, who is also in the employ of the company, hails from Katikati, and is a clever mechanical engineer. The company is extremely lucky in getting two such men. The company has had a most successful season, the average price paid for butter-fat during the past season being 9.64 d; At the New Zealand Dairy Association’s creamery extensive improvements have been made. A. large verandah has been erected in front of the receiving stage to protect the cans from rain, and the building has been painted and otherwise improved. Suppliers to this creamery say their payments for butter-fat for last season will average IOJd per lb; thereiore the Dairy Association must have had a phenomenal season, as the creamery here is not the largest belonging to the company. We are getting through the winter fairly well. Feed is short now, but spring is at hand.
