The Waikato Argus [PUBLISHED DAILY.] A Guaranteed Circulation of Over 7500 Weekly. SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 10, 1906.

The Hamilton Cadets are leaving by express train to-day for Huntly, where they will shoot a match with the local company. A little son of Mr J. Murray, of Hamilton, was knocked on the forehead yesterday, by a horse, and had a narrow escape. It was found necessary to put a few stitches in the wound; but the only wonder is that he was not killed. By or'er of the Official Assignee all the furniture and effects of the Baden-Powell boardinghouse, Cambridge, will be sold by Davis and Co., on Wednesday next, without reserve. See advertisement in this issue. Farmers are reminded that at Ohaupo on Tuesday next Messrs McNicol and Co. will offer 250 forwardconditioned three and four-year-old steers, 250 head of cattle from two-year-old downwards, and 300 ewes with lambs. We are requested to notify Mr A. W. Pairman, public vaccinator for the Te Awamutu district, will attend at Ohaupo on Tuesday 13th, and at Pirongia on Thuidsay, 15th intt, from 1 to 2 p.m. for free vaccination. Parents are requested to have their children vaccinated, as required by law. At the Police Court, Hamilton, this morning Mr R. J. Paul, J P.. presided. Michael Jordan, for drunkenness. was fined 5s and costs 2s. James Heard for drunkenness and creating a breach of the peace was fined £1 and costs 7s. The Hamilton bowling green was well patronised on Thursday afternoon and several most enjoyable games were played, with the following results: — Seddon Fortcscue, Sandes, S. Fortescue (skip). 22; Fee, Dark Wilson, Chappell (skip), 18; Mitchell, Mayo Bateman, Warren (skip), 18; Bevan, Hyde Bodle, Manning (skip), 16; Wilson, Chappell (skip), 14; Fortescue, S. Fortescue (skip), 7. A fire broke out in Hamilton

about 1.30 a.m. yesterday morning, by which two old buildings in Granthamstreet, occupied by Miss Spittall, dressmaker, and Mr Booth, painter, were destroyed. The origin of the fire is a mystery, and though the brigade turned out, all they could do was to prevent the fire spreading to Miss Newell’s school, which they succeeded in doing. Nothing whatever was saved, and there were no insurances. On Monday the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., will hold an unreserved clearing sale on the property of Mr B. W. Beere, of Tamahere (adjoining Bruntwood Estate). Mr Beere has decided to give up dairying, and is offering his whole choice herd of dairy cows, all young and in full milk. A two-year-old Shorthorn bull, calves, milk cans, etc., will also be brought forward. Sale starts at one o’clock, and luncheon will be provided. A young lady engaged in one of the riding competitions at Claudelands yesterday caused some excitement. Her horse baulked at the first jump and threw her; but she fell clear and was uninjured. Remounting she again faced the hurdles and this time safely negotiated them. The horse, however, took charge and dashed into the crowd. One man foolishly tried to stop it and got knocked down for his patns, and the animal knocked down another man and a woman before it was got under control. It does not require a prophet to foretell that if the crowd is allowed to close in on the exits as they did yesterday it will not be long before someone pays the penalty with his life.
