The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company (Limited) report: HorsesAt the Durham yards on Friday horses weae brought forward in average numbers. Horses of the active stamp and young are in keen demand. Heavy draughts sold at from £24 to JE37 10s ; medium do., £2l 5s to £3 4 ; hacks and light harness horses, £5 10s * to £23 ; weeds, £2 15s to £8 5s ; spring trap, £l2 10s ; buggy, £ls. Cattle : At the Newmarket yards on Tuesday dairy and store stock were penned in usual numbers and sold at fate rates. Fat cattle were yarded in full quantities, and realised last week’s rates, oxen selling to 23a per 1001b, cows 17s to 20s. Steers sold at from £G to £lO 17s 6d; cows, £4, 5s to £7 10s. Dairy cows, yarded in large numbers, sold at from £4 to £7 5s ; empty cows, £1 10s to .£2 17s ; calves, 17s to £1 3s. Sheep were yarded in scarcely average numbets at Newmarket on Tuesday and sold at late rates, wethers selling at from £1 Is to £1 7s 3d ; ewes, 19s 9d to £1 3s 6d ; hoggets, 18s 6d to 19s 9d. Pigs, yarded in average numbers, sold at from 18s 9d to £ll7s for potkers ; weaners, 10s 3d to 15s 9d. We submitted a large catalogue of hides, skins, tallow, etc., on Tuesday, all lines being keenly competed for. Hides: Market firm. We quote: — Extra stout ox, 7|d to 8d; stout do., 6-Jd to 7id; medium do., 6d to 6Jd; light do., 64d to ssd; cow, beat lines 5Jd to 6d, good s£d to s|d, wet s|d to s|d; stags’, 4d to 4sd ; kips, sid to sijd; calfskins, 6Jd to 6Jd; horse hides, 9s to 11s; damaged hides, 4d to 4£d. Sheepskins: Market brisk. Best butchers’ skins, 7s 6d to 8s; medium, 5a 3d to 6s 3d; small, 4s to 4s 9d. Tallow : Market firm. Best mixed, up to 24s j good, 21s to 22b 6d; seconds, 19s to 20s 3d; rough fat, lid per lb. Bones, £4 15s. Cowtails, Is 6d dozen. Horsehair, Is to Is fid. Horns: Large, 17a 6d to 23a 6d; medium, 10s to 13s 6d; small, 2s 6d to 6s 6d. Maize s Firm at 3s 7d in store tor wholesale lines. Oats: The town stocks are beginning to work down somewhat, but so far the marker shows no improvement. B grade 2s Bd. Potatoes, £ll to £l2 10s ex store. Chaff, firm at £5 5s ex store. Butter: Prime separater sells freely at lid; second grade to good, slow of sale,, from oid to IOJd. Cheese: In good demand at 6|d for prime factory.
