Mr Jamei T. Cox, headmaster o Taupiri school, wai selected on Tueida veniog by the Mount Roekill Schoo Committee for the headmastership of th Mount Roskill school. Mr Cox's name will be submitted to the Board with a recommendation for appointment. We understand that a letter has been received by a resident of Hamilton from the Minister of Railways, re the propored footbridge at Ciaudelands. The communication will be considered by the committee at an early date, and it is prob l>)e that a public meeting of thoße intere.ted will be held subsequently.
The Cambridge footballers have paid up the promised £lO to the Borough Council, and that body is now proceeding to erect a pavilion, which will also act as a dressing room tor the footballers, and ■ hree shower bothe, We understand the players are going in for good hard training. Yesterday they had a practice match, in which they showed very fair form.
Rumour has been busy during the past tew days in connection with the Central Hotel, Auckland. 111-health, combined with financial troubles, precipi'ated the crisis on Tuesday, and rendered it necessary for Mr Rolleston to tile his petition in bankruptcy and reliuquish his charge. Mr J. W. formerly of the Grand Hotel, Rotorua, is now controlling the Central.
A correspondent writing from faero l * says : A large number of the employees of the Ohinemuri Coaching Company met on Monday night for the purpose of making a presentation to Mr A. Rowe, who is about to leavo for Hamilton. The presentation took the firm of a very handsome pair of carvers. Mr W. J. Wilson, on behalf of tho subscribers, spoke of the regret felt at Mr Rowb'b departure, and wished him every success in his new home. Mr Rowe has accepted the management of the Hamilton Coaching Company.
The New Zealand Gospel Carriage, on its travels round tho North Island, has come to Hamilton, and tomorrow night its inmates—Messrs Whitehead and Isaac—will conduct Gospel meetings in St. Peter's school room at 7.30. Will all kindly accipt a hearty invitation to be present, especia ly those who are not interested in, and usually have no time for, these things. The speakers are convinced that t> o good news they have been commissioned to deliver is what all such need in Hamilton. Sankey's hymns will be sung, there will be no collections, ami the endeavour will be to make th>meetiogs hearty, helpful, blight, ant' much to the point. There will be root). for all.
A young man named Ernes;:, Pigott was charged at the Aucklat Police Court yesterday with creating disturbance on a railway train. Accuse' and several companions were amusing themselves by throwing whisky and fish about the carriage, and when remonstrated with did not desist. At Pukekohe Constables Bamsay and McGovern were called in, and it was decided to put Pigott off the train. Accused, who wn< mad with drink, resisted violently. knocklDg Constable Ram-ay back off tlucarriage platform twice and kicking Constable McGovern. Eventually th-ee people managed to hold him and his le; - were tied. The constables stated that h was ramping mad, frothing at the mout' and was more like a lunatic than drunkard. He stated that he had oh tained some drink in the King Country Pigott w>s fined £1 and costs in the oat of drunkenness, and sentenced to tw months' hard labour for the assault o Constable Ramsay and using bad language. It this is the sott of stuff that U being retailed in the King Country, th > sooner the whole of the townships are brought under the heading of Maori 'kaingas' the better.

He is now giving his time to distributing the thousand and one ends of his stocki-in-trade to all and sundry who are convinced that they are sharing the good thingß upon exceptionally good terms.
