CAMBRIDGE HIGH LEI/EL BRIDG:.

TO TUB KDITOK. Sib, —I was much pleased to see our old friend S. Steele take the stand he did at the recent meeting of the Waipa Council with regard to the high level hridge at Cambridge, and also that he was well backed up by the majority of Councillors. While we have ungravelled roads and steep hills in many pat ta of the county which require attention, the ratepayers in tho west of the county desire to put in their claim for a share of the money beine spent. To spend from £SOOO to £10,001) on a bridge when from £3OOO to £4OOO would answer the purpose may suit our Cambridge friends, but if they want this expensive structure let them and the adjoining districts who advocate it p*y for all it costs above £4OOO. We, who use the bridge perhaps once a year, are quite coutent with the old site. I am told that a cutting at about £IOO would avoid the steep hill into Duke-street. There tire other bridges in the county—at Hamilton, Ngaruawahia, Whatawhata, To Koro and Pirongia—which require attention, so that a speciil rate for bridges is almost a certaiuty.—l am, etc., Economy.
