RAGLAN.

On Tuesday Mr Kyngdon, who, during tho last two years, has spent the summer months with us, and purchased largely of both town and country lots, left by the Kia Ora. He is staying with his daughter in Taranaki for the next month, and then takes his annual trip to the Islands, thence he goes to New Britain and other islands of the Pacific

Constable McCaithy is to be appointed local Inspector of Fisheries for the Raglan Harbour. Mr T B. Hill obtained a specimen of microhuna grass near the summit of Karioi, and Mr Kirk, to whom he sent a specimen, says :--'The name of the grass is Miorol.ona Aveoacea, a useful grass for cattle, which prefers to grow in the open spaces in the bush, and is a very useful grass to grow in the orchard.' The many friends of Mr Arthur Thode gave him a hearty send-off at tho Raglan Public Hall on Thursday evening last. Tbe very web weather prevented many frem being in attendance. Mr and the Misses Husband, Mr and Mrs McCarthy, Mr and Miss Green, and Mr H. Matthew kindly helped in the musical programme, and dancing was indulged in. Mr A. L. Pegler expressed the regret that all felt at Mr Thode'B departure, and spoke of the very high esteem all had for him. Mr Thode in feeling terms referred to the kind manner in which he had been spoko of. A most pleasant evening was spent, a'l wishing Mr Thode success. Mr Thode left by coach next morning for Ngaruawahia, where he has now obtained a business situation. Tho Rev. Mr RadcliCTe, vicar of Hamilton, was over during part of last week visiting manv parts of the district. On Sunday acceptable services wore held at To Mata, Te Uku and at Raglau in the evening. The very wet day preveoted many from attending these sen ices. While Mr George Edgecumbe was here in he ear y part of this week Mr Hamilton, chairman nf tho Raglau School Committee, look him over the school grounds, which sadly require drain ng Mr Edgecumbe locognised tho necessity of the svork, and promised at the next meeting of the Education Board in Auckland to see to the matter. A telegram has been received by the chairman of the committee that a grunt of £5 has been given, and this, tngo her with a vote from the soliool funds, will be available for draining and making t drier and better for the children during the coming wintor.— (Own Correspondent.)
