The sheep pens and drafting yards all being used in order to yard the young stock and dairy cows. There wis a record attendance and spirited biddiug throughout, and we have to report a most successful sale. The beef pens contained 170 odd head of fat cattle, mostly steers and many of them of prime quality and though bidding was a little lanquid at tbo start of the sale everything was disposed of at the hammer or immediately afterwards, excepting three pens of steers, not realising owners' reserves. Twenty prime steers from Messrs MeGovern and Quin, re» altsed from £9 10s to £lO ; 15 trom Mr Jno. Gordon, £9 2s to £lO ; H. Rhodes, £9 ;W. Newell, £9 10s; light weights from various owners, £7 15s to £8 128 6d ; prime cows and heifers from Mr A. Bayly and other sellers, £6 to £S 4s. The store pens were well filled with some choice cattle. Forward steers fetched from £7 58 to £7 12s; forward cows, £5 12s 6d to £6 ; 3-year-old steers, £5 12s to £6 2s ; 2 and 2J-year-oH steers, £5 4s to £5 98; 18-months steers, £4 10s to £4 15s ; choice steers, £3 16s to £4 3s ; yearlings, mixed sexes £2 10s to £3 7s ; quiet yearling heifers, £2l6s to £3 8s; 18months and 2-year-old heifers up to £4 ; calves, mixed sexee £1 15s to £ 2 6s. Dairy stock came forward in extra large numbers (over 200 head) and dieted keen bidding, everything selling at auction, but a few small heifers, best quality cows made from £7 10s to £9 ; best heifers from Freshfleld and Mr C. Matthew, and other Belters, £5 to £8 ; smaller sorts (in lots of 5 and 8), £4 10a to £5 12s 6d. Fit sheep were well represented (the best yarding for some time), and elicited extra keen bidding. Prime ewes and wethers from Mr Jno. May,' 6. Main, F, Mandeno and N. Kumnoy, realised from 19s to 24s each ; fat hogeets, 13s 6d to 16s ; store hoggets, 10s to 12s 6d . 160 pigs yarded and all sold at high prices, best weaners, 19s to 33a ; smaller sorts 10s to 15s ; rough store pigs, 10s 18s. Light waggon, £7 ; spring cart, £9; milk cans £1 Is to £1 7s 6d. CAMBRIDGE SALE. Messrs McNicol and Co. report : At our Cambridge sale yesterday, we had a very fair yarding of stock. Store, 3 and 3J-year-old stecrß, £6 10a: freshconditioned oi und 4-year-old steers, £7 3a to £8 12a tkl. Thirty-six fat steers entered were not sold. Fat heifers up to £6 ss; store cows, £3 12a 6d to £4 ss; 6-montbs-old calves, 30a to 45s ; dairy cows at profit, £7 to £S ; backward cows, £5 to £5 10»; heifers at profit, £5 15a to £7 2s 6d ; others, £4 10s to £5 ss. Wo had a good entry of sheep, some 700 being yarded ; fat ewes, ISa ; forward-conditioned empty ewes, 143 6d ; fait hoggets, 17s to 18s; good store hoggets, 13s ; small hoggets, 10s 6d. A lot of sundries sold at usual rates. Tlih 3000 feet of rough kauri attracted a gi?cd many buyers, and sold well within valuo at 10s to 14s per 100 feet. We have 20,000 feet of similar timber for the Hamilton sale on October Ist, and would strongly recommend farmers to take advantago of the present opportunity.
