The Secretary, Waikato Hospital, wishes to thank Mr Bettley, Hamilton, for the gift of a cake, and Mr W. K. Carter, Cambridge, for a gift of books for the use of the inmates of the Old Men's Home. A donation of periodicals from Mr G. F. Wilkinson, Otorohanga, is also thankfully acknowledged. One of the quickest land sales we have heard of for some time took place in Hamilton yesterday. Hr H. Roche, of Ohaupo, introduced Mr Thos. Wilson, of Waingaro, to a section of land at Pttkete, the property of Mr G- Graham, with the result that a sale was effeated, deeds signed, and cash paid over within a space of about four hours. A grand recital of sacred music 13 announced to ho given in St. Andrew's Church, Cambridge, on Christmas night. The recital will commence at half-past seven, and will consist of special anthems, solos and duets. A largely-augmented choir will be present, and among the soloists will be found the best talent in Cambridge, assisted by Auckland vocalists The Maori Council opens at Huntly on January 1, and it is anticipated that we will have the largest gathering of natives there has been in Huntly. Preparations are now going on apace, no less than 300 sacks of potatoes having arrived at the settlement, a considerable quantity coming from Kawhia. It is reported by the chiefs that Mr Seddon will favour the meeting by a visit in the New Year. The "W.C.T.U. meeting held at the Mission Hall, Cambridge, ou Tuesday, IGb inst., resolved that their uext meeting should bo at the same place in four weeks from date, viz., on Tuesday. 13th January, 1903, thus dispensing with the Cambridge West fortnightly meeting on account of the holidays. In the interval, the members resolved to endeavour to hold committee meetings to further the wotk of the Bind of Hopo at Cambridge West. The thanks of the Uuiou were recorded for it parcel of literature from Mrs Thorne. Mr Jos. Varney, manager for Messrs Hallenstein Bros, iu Hamilton, draws attention to the tact that he has just opaned up a new and attractive stock of seasonable goods tor the summer. There is a wonderful variety of boots, hais and gentlemen's mereeiy, and anything required by Ihe fair sex can alho he su plied. This firm have now established a reputation for the choice quali-y of ihe articles sold by them ; they recognise the fact that a genuine article ensures further support, and only those brands that can be guaranteed are stocked. Mr Varney invites inspection of the display in his windows. For some time past Mr Geo. Parr has been interesting himself in obtaining some trout fry for liberation in the Hamilton Lake, and by yesterday's train he received a consignment from Mr F. D. Smale, of Waimakariri. They were strong, healthy specimens, and were at once set adrift. It is to be hoped the experiment will prove successful, as trout fishing would prove a great attraction to our town ; but most people appear to be sceptical on this point. We understand that a lot of similar fish were placed there some 14 or 15 years ago, and nothing was ever seen or heard of them. Sonic years later catfish were tried, but this experiment was also a failure. However, there is no harm iu making another attempt to stock the Lake, and we sincerely trust this one may be attended with more success. Whether or no, Mr Parr certainly deserves the thanks of the community for the trouble he .has taken iu the matter. SYNOPSIS OF ADVERTISEMENTS. Found: Bicycle sprocket wheel.
