Tins sale was commenced yesterday, and was very successful, buyers being present from all parts of the North Is'aud, and some from the South. The sale was commenced with the disposal of the heavy draughts; unbroken colts brought up to £36, and broken ones to £43. For anything good the bidding was spirited, but owing to the backward spring many of the animals were not in as good condition as is usual at this time of the year. Contractors' boms sold freely, one line of 26 averaging £3O each. Amongst the principal buyers were Messrs R. D. Knight, of Pahiatua, and Hawkins, of Christchureh. The Bale is being continued to-day. AUCKLAND MARKETS. TitK Nkw Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co- (Ltd) report.— Horses: At the Durham Yards on Friday horses were yarded in average numbers and competition was brisk. Heavy draught horses sold from £2B to £35 12s 66*; medium ditto, £23 12s 6d to £34 10a ; light harness horses. £8 5s to £22 10s ; hacks, £0 5s to £l4 12s 6d. A spring-cart made £lO 10s ; double-seated buggy, £ls Cattle :At the Newmarket Yards on Tuesday dairy and store stockwere penned in usual numbers. There was an average supply of beef, aud prices were firm at last week's rate?, ox selling from 24s to 30?, and cow 17s to 21a per lOOib. Fat steers sold from £8 to £l4 ; fat cows, £4 15a to £9 ; dairy cows, £5 5s to £8 2s 6d ; dairy heifers, £4 5a to £6 2s 6d ; calves, £1 5s ro £2 4a. Sheep : There wis an average yarding at Newmarket on Tuesday, and prices for wellfatted advanced fiom Is to 2s per head. Fat wethers sold from 12s Gd to 22a Oil ; fat ewes. 8s 6d to 16a 9d : hoggets, 6a 6d to 10s Bd. The advertised ewes and lam! a sold from 8s 6d to 9*. Pigs : Yarded in larger- numbers than usual, and sold well. Porkers £1 Is to £2 3s ; wraners. 5s 61 to 12s 9d. At Pukekuhe on Wednesday there was a large muster of dairy and store cattle, the demand being good. Dairy cows sob] from £4 10h to £7 5s ; empty ditto, £2 18s to £3 15s ; heifers, £1 15s to £3 5s ; yearling steers, £ll3* to £2 Sb ; grown ditto, £4 15a to £6 17a 6 1 ; fat cattle at Newmarket rates. At the cleatiug sale cf live and dead stock' held on behnlf of Mr G. R. McCrae, Msugere, on Saturday, there was a good attendance, and very satisfactory prices were realised, What cowa sold brought up to £8 15a ; farm horsee,£JSlos to £33. Hides: There was a large catalogue on Tuesday, when competition waa good and the market closed firm. Maize : The market was weak on Monday at 3t Gd, f.0.b., about 1000 sacks being lefc on hand after supplying Sydney orders. Oata : Firm at 3* on wharf tor ' B ' grade iu wholesale lines. Chaff: Continues firm at an advance of 5a on previous week's rale. Potatoes: Prime Canter* burys are now quoted at £5 15s ex store, with a firm market. Dairy produce Butter : Supplies of farmers' separator arc now coming in more freely, and there i.a a good ctquiry at up to lid per lb for best lines. ' VVaverley ' factory /, lb squares, is per lb. Cheese : Trie increase in prices reported by us laat week has naturally led to a lesscr.ed demand.
