London, August 28. Holbein started from Cape Grisnez on Wednesday afternoon on his third attempt to swim across the English Channel. The conditions were favourable. He was taken out of the water within a mile of the Dover Parade, after having been immersed for over 2H hours. He had a great struggle to advance agaiust the tide at the finish. Holmes, an English swimmer, attempted to swim from Dover to Grisnez, but abandoued the task six miles from the French coast, owing to sickness.
