PRESBYTERIAN SOCIAL.
The adherents of St. Andrew’s Church, Hamilton, tendered a welcome social last evening to Mr Tenuent, the student who has been appointed to minister to their spiritual wants for a short teim. The attendance was large, and the entertainment proved a thoroughly enjoyable one. The Rev. J. Erwin, of Cambridge, presided, and he briefly introduced Mr Tennent, expressing a hope that I hey would all pull together, and work in peace and harmony for the benefit of all. He predicted that the advent of Mr Tennent was the beginning of a new era in the church’s history, and he assured those present that nothing would he lacking on the part of thac gentleman to restore the church to that flourishing condition which it has been wont to occupy. Mr Tennent briefly replied, thanking the chairman for his kindly words of welcome, and assuring the congregation that he would be pleased to do his utmost for the welfare of the church.
Tin* following musical programme was thru proceeded with Mandolin solo, ‘Lost Chord,’ Mr Dyraocb ; song, ‘On the Banks of the Wabash,’ Miss N. Reid ; song, ‘ Asleep in the Deep,’ Miss C. Mullins; soug, ‘ Life’s Lullaby,’ Miss Cecille Le Quesne ; song, * The Boers Have Got My Daddy,’ Miss N. Reid ; mandolin solo, ‘ This Voice is Near Me,’ Mr Dymock; song, ‘Consider the Lillie?,’ Mr S. Meachem; duet, the Misses Meachem ; song, ‘ The Lost Chord,’ Mr Blomfield. A bountiful supper was provided by the lady members of the congregation, and at its conclusion Dr Douglas thanked all those who had in any way assisted towards the success of the gathering, which then closed with the Doxology.
