The Hew Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company (Limited) report :—Horses: Were yarded in more than average numbers on Friday at the Durham Yards. The demand for heavy and medium horses is exceptionally good. We quote : Heavy draught, from £27 to J • £33 15s; medium, £lB lo £25 15s ; light harness, £6 15s to £ls 7s 6d; a sulky made £l3 2s 6d. Cattle: At the Newmarket Yards on Tuesday dairy and Btore stock were penned in usual numbers and sold at late rate 3. Beef was yarded in average numbers and prices were firmer throughout than the previous week. Ox beef sold at from 20s to 23s per 1001 b; cows, 17s tc 20s; steers, from £6 2s 9d to £lO 10s ; cows, £3 17s 6d to £7 12s 6d ; dairy cows, £4 to £6 17s 6d ; store cows, £2 15s to £4 Is; three-year-old steers, £4 15s to £5 17s; a draft of steers from Mr A Kidd, of the Ake Ake swamp, averaged £9 16c Sheep : The Newmarket Yards were well-filled on Tuesday and most were of good quality. Wethers sold at from 13s 9d to 2ls; ewes, 12s 6d to 18s 3d ; spring lambs, in " full numbers, sold at from 10a 3d to 149 6d; ewes with lambs at their sides made 138 6d. Pigs: More plentiful than for some weeks and sold well. Porkers sold at from 17s to 35s each ; weaners, 8s to 14s 9d. Hides, Skins, Tallow, etc.: Were offered in about the usual quantities on Tuesday at our weekly sale; ■ hides, if anything a shade firmer, more especially light. We sold stout .ox at from 5d to s|d ; heavy, 4Jd to 4£d; light and medium, 3-Jd to 4d ; cow, 3Jd 33d; kip, 3£d to 4d ; stags, 2d to 2gd per v lb; skins, large, 3s 3d to 33 9d; small and' medium, 2s 3d to 3s: tallow, best, 17s to 19s per cwt; tails, 2s per dozen; bones, 5s per cwt; horsehair, usual rates. ' Maize : The wholesale qaotation (or maize is 2s 3|d to 2s 4d per bushel on wharf. Oats are worth 2s lid per bushel on wharf for wholesale lines. Potatoes: Small supplies to hand, and market has risen to £2 10s per ton e.i.f. Chaff is weaker, and is selling at £2 15s per ton at rail for wholesale parcels.
